China tells living Buddhas to obtain permission before they reincarnate!

Tibet’s living Buddhas have been banned from reincarnation without permission from China’s atheist leaders. The ban is included in new rules intended to assert Beijing’s authority over Tibet’s restive and deeply Buddhist people.

“The so-called reincarnated living Buddha without government approval is illegal and invalid,” according to the order, which comes into effect on September 1.

I flippin' HATE China.
Nice to know they aren't just oppressing the Catholics in their midst. That 'illegal', 'invalid' mess is exactly the language they use when speaking of the Roman Catholic Church in China.
Although we find the idea of living Buddhas comical, this story is really very sad, and the heart of it is about atheists telling theists what to do and how to worship.

One hopes that all Buddhas will be busy reincarnating before the deadline (oops, sorry, pun not (entirely) intended) - they've got 21 days left!

This one will backfire but it will take a few decades. There will be living Buddhas popping up all over the place. The efforts of the Chinese have already resulted in Tibeten Buddhism being well known in the West.

The communists obviously take religion very seriously. If they really wanted to stamp it out they would just ignore it.

Sorry for my laughter Ma Beck-it was just the very idea of telling people it was illegal to reincarnate! I mean...Well I just don't know what to say.

I used to be part of a Free Tibet campaign-in my youth. Some nasty, nasty things have happened to the people of Tibet over the years.

How the heck Beijing GOT to host the Olympics was utterly beyond me.
I'm with you

WSNS,
No, believe me, I see the humor in the prohibition against reincarnation! Matter of fact, I giggled at that part, too.
;)

Goofy Commies - they're a pox on the planet.
Yeah, how a country with that human rights record gets to invite the world to a party IT hosts is beyond me.
Oh, but the IOC is all about 'world culture' and 'multiculturalism.'
As long as it's not a culture that wants to worship God freely.

Hey, I am 1/4 Chinese and I am so mad at China for so any reasons...the way they persecute the underground Church, the lack of care in the food they send over, the waiting time for adopting a baby....I say boycott 2008 Olympics too!
