An Orthodox (with a capital O) comment on another blog says this could be seen as the Catholic equivalent of the Triumph of Orthodoxy (restoration of the Icons).
To a benighted Anglican who could never quite see what all the fuss was about, that comment suddenly seemed to make the whole thing make sense and explained why it was such an issue.
I am presently toasting the Holy Father in Prosecco (sorry, can't afford the French stuff ...)
